Nestled in the heart of Springfield, TN is the outdoor oasis of Mahala Springs and Farm, a newly opened space that offers guests a place to host weddings, bridal showers, reunions, and events of all kids.
On June 11, the Robertson County Chamber of Commerce and Mahala Springs and Farm owners celebrated the venue’s grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
Located at 6455 Hwy. 49 E in Springfield, the 34 acres of farmland was purchased by Corie Owens and her husband Ashley in 2021 after moving to the area from Hendersonville. After spending two rears restoring an 1890s farmhouse on the property, the couple turned their focus on making the rest of the land available for guests to enjoy.
Owner Corie Owens poses in front of the farm’s 19th century open-air tobacco barn, which provides over 1,700 square feet of space to host an event.
“I was wanting land and space, and Hendersonville was just crowding in around us,” Corie said. “So, we started looking around and we always used to come up to The Depot, and that was kind of all we knew about Springfield. But as we started house and land hunting, we discovered these 34 acres and fell in love with it. I really feel like God was orchestrating that time in my life where one chapter was closing and another one opened.”
For the first two years after moving, Owens says their hands were so full renovating their new home that they forgot about the rest of the property. After praying for ideas to use the land, she felt led to start her own business.
“My priority was shifted so far from where I thought we were headed. I told my husband the answer I’m getting is that we’re not building right now. I’m starting a business. I told him I was just getting this direction of finding a way to use your property.
After Corie started brainstorming, it eventually led her to the creation of Mahala Springs and Farm.
“Once I realized that this was my next big adventure, it all made sense. All of my life I have loved hosting. I just love decorating and building the space and then inviting people over. I think back at how God led us here and how he blessed me with a space to do what I’ve always loved to do.”
In addition to an open-air tobacco barn built in the 19th century, which provides over 1,700 square feet of space to host an event, the farm features forests, a pond, and the Beaver Dam Creek which runs through the heart of the property.
The venue will even satisfy outdoor enthusiasts. Not only can visitors walk on a mile-long greenway and numerous hiking trails, they also can go kayaking on the creek or ziplining through the forest.
According to Owens, the name of the venue comes from her middle name Mahala, a derivative of the Hawaiian word “mahalo” which means “many thanks” after she was born in Maui.
Years later, a friend of hers looked up the meaning of the word mahala. She discovered that its true meaning comes from Hebrew, which means “compassionate female,” and Native American, where its translated to “tender woman.”

“I just love the word and thought that what I’m about to do here on this property is going to reflect me a lot,” Owens said. “I take pride in that, but also ownership with bringing my namesake into this as well.”
Earlier this month, Mahala Springs and Farm hosted an open house prior to their official opening. Owens says the showing of support from the Springfield community has been tremendous as she works to get her business on the ground.
“We’ve had such good support. I loved the open house because all the vendors and networking I really hoped to do all showed up in full force. I was able to talk with caterers, florists, and photographers. The City of Springfield and the chamber was there, and even neighbors came. It was just amazing.”
So far the venue has already hosted a wedding and has two more booked for the future but can be used for any type of special event.
“The property is conducive to so many ideas, and weddings are in there, but we can also host birthday parties or bridal showers,” Owens said. “We even had a proposal here, and I decorated our rope bridge across Beaver Dam Creek. I just love being a part of these memories and being able to decorate to make this so magical for somebody.”
